Guest appearance on What Were They Eating?!

We went to Portland in March to visit with our favorite YouTube stars, John and Chari! Previously featured in our Hawaii trip pictures, they are on to bigger and better things in that most hipster of cities. We brought with us a wealth of inedible 1960s recipes, one of which they deemed worthy of inclusion in their latest installment of WWTE?

2015/2016/2017 Round up!

"You haven't updated your blog! You post so infrequently! What has been going on for the last couple years?" Asked absolutely no one. But I'm going to post it anyway!

Lake Merritt - my work neighbor

I took a job in Oakland (again) in 2015. I've been commuting a lot. But I am no longer responsible for dealing with other people's baby-mama-drama, so I've definitely de-stressed a bit. I do have to travel to LA, SD, and Sac sometimes for the programs I manage, and I occasionally get to go somewhere more exciting.

I immediately got to go to the State Bar meeting in OC in 2015. That wasn't very fun or exciting, but I followed it with a bunch of small trips to LA, Paso Robles, Sacramento, and Tahoe/Truckee (because a freak snow storm closed I-80 and I got a "bonus" night in a crappy motel by the highway).

Beautiful Anaheim!

In this time, Steve achieved optimal full beard, then shaved it to again reveal his adorable face, then grew in something I call the "W"--mustache attached to biker chops.

Mulligan had to have back surgery in February 2016 for a bulging disc, but recovered miraculously and is doing well at 11 years (will be 12 on June 22).

We managed to spend some time in LA  in the spring of 2016, San Diego in the fall, Panama over Thanksgiving, and Portland March 2017. I got to go to Nashville in January 2017 for a conference, which made Steve jealous, but I barely managed to get out.

So a lot has happened! and yet, not very much. Here's hoping for a huge trip in 2018! In the meantime, I'm working on paying off those student loans. (It's only been 14 years since I graduated from law school. It's about time.)

Whatever happened to the Internet?

Has Google deleted or blocked everything on the web that can't be monetized? Once upon a time, the internet was a place where people freely posted information, stories, photos, art, poetry, etc. You could connect with other people, learn about things, and explore. Now there is nowhere to go without handing over your personal information and the content is usually not worth it. Even many blogs that look like they might be run by actual people all look strangely similar and are updated with alarming regularity for something one person does in their free time. I am supremely bored.  And thanks to the internet, there is no neighborhood bookstore to hang out in anymore.
